- Ela Bhutt (born:1933,Ahmedabad) is a well known philanthropist and social worker of modern India.
- She is the founder of the Self-Employed Women's Association of India (SEWA) in 1972.
- As a women's trade union SEWA has empowered more than 1.3 marginalized women of India.
- She was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership in 1977, the Right Livelihood Award in 1984, Padma Shri in 1985, and the Padma Bhushan in 1986.
- In 2010, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton honored Bhatt with the Global Fairness Initiative Award.
- Recently she was honored with the prestigious Radcliffe award of Harvard University.
- Her book : "We are poor but so many: the story of self-employed women in India."
- In November 2011,she was selected for Indira Gandhi prize for Peace,Disarmament and Development 2011 for her lifetime achievements in empowering women through grassroots entrepreneurship.
