Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2012

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee will present the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2012 to H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia on September 12, 2013 at a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development was instituted in the name of former Prime Minister Late Smt. Indira Gandhi. It celebrates the values that she stood and fought for in the service of our nation and its people. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is the current President of Liberia.

H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was awarded the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize, jointly with Leymah Gbowee of Liberia and Tawakel Karman of Yemen. All three were recognized "for their non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peace-building work.
